Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of MinoSharp 220/GB Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener, Grey/BlackCustomer Review: Works Well for my Global Chef's Knife Summary: 5 Stars
After emailing several places, I found this is the correct sharpener for my Global Chef's knife. I was concerned about keeping the edge at the same angle as it was originally. The clear plastic tray cover lifts off easily so water can be added to the tray. Simply roll the knife through several times and the edge is back to original condition. I recommend this sharpener to keep your knife like new.
Customer Review: Works great - would buy again Summary: 5 Stars
Lives up to its reputation. Easy to use, does the job, well made and good value.
Customer Review: Works just like it said Summary: 4 Stars
I got this a couple of days ago because my chef's knife was starting to squash tomatoes rather than cut through them. Sharpening both the chef's and a vegetable knife, following the directions, I was pleasantly surprised when they each sliced through the paper towels I was using to dry them off. I finished the sharpening with a steel and am very happy with the results. I haven't done anything to the blades but use the steel after each use since I bought the knives, and am jazzed that this little guy brought my blades back to life.
I know there was some negative reviews of the blades, but keeping the blades perpendicular, and not pushing down to hard, I got a good edge. I think if you push down too hard, you put the blade edge flat on the wheel, and grind off the edge, which would make the knife duller. Keep it perpendicular so it puts wheels faces against the blades faces and it will give you what you are looking for. But of course, a professional sharpening from someone who has been doing this type of thing for years would produce an amazing edge - probably for about the same cost as this little baby.
Customer Review: Works on Globals but also on German Knives Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to sharpen several Global knives after comparing it to the confusing and expensive arrays of sharpening stones out there. The sharpener is easy to use and made of high quality materials. To operate Simply fill the small tray with water and run the knife thru the offset grooves over a course and fine ceramic wheel. After a minute i was done with several knives. Comparing the globals afterward I had mixed feelings because the knives were already pretty sharp to begin with. The revelation though was how well it worked on my Wusthof Grand Prix Knives. In fact they restored them to better than new as i was always dissatisfied with them because they were never very sharp which led me to Globals to begin with. Now the Wusthof's are of comparable sharpness. This is a great item and well worth the price.
Customer Review: Works surprisingly well Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this product for 2 years and it works very well for me - surprisingly, in that I've never before had great luck with DIY "sharpeners".
It brings back the sharpness of my large Global chef's knife very well. Also, it works on some of my other knives (such as a low-cost Oxo that has a thin blade) - even though these other knives do not have the same angle as the Global. On my more traditional knives with thicker blades (and which I had had professionally reground), the results are only OK, but still helpful. (Besides actual food cutting, I judge my results using the "paper test".)
All this said, I do run the blades through the rollers maybe 3X the number of times recommended in the instructions in order to get the best results. Of course, if I used this thing more often, maybe the recommended number would be enough.
