I admit it. I hate to cook. This is why I like to have really good kitchen tools. I like tools that work fast and clean easily.This is possibly the best knife on the planet. I am so pleased with this knife that I am giving away my formerly indespensible Henckel chef's knife. You have to cut with the Global knife yourself to realize how effortless kitchen tasks can be with the right tool.
I gave this knife a trial run on Thanksgiving. I was so surprised at how easily it cut through vegetables, that I insisted that my husband try it. I handed him a very thick carrot and suggested that he start at the thickest part. He was equally surprised at how little effort it took to use this knife.
I prepared all of the vegetables, carved the turkey and sliced the bread with this knife. It held its edge beautifully. I did need to sharpen it to cut through some over-ripe tomatoes the next day, but with just a few swipes through the sharpener the knife was once again razor sharp and ready for precision cutting.
Actually, I'm so pleased with this knife that I've added a smaller vegetable knife and a bread knife from the same line to my holiday wish list. Who knew that it would take a fine kitchen tool to help me spend LESS time in the kitchen?

After 20 years of struggling with subpar knives, I decided to invest in a good chef's knife. This is the best knife I've ever owned! It has an extremely sharp blade and a nice, stiff handle that makes cutting a breeze. I purchased it after reading "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain, in which he recommended this brand. This is one of the first global knives I bought. I loved it the first time I held it in my hands. What impressed me most was the perfect balance, the lightweight, and the sharpness. However, what may be perfect for me may not be perfect for you. I'd recommend anyone who is shopping for cutlery to go to a store and try how the knife feels in your hands before buying. And if you can borrow from a friend to try, that's even better.Having used this knife for several years now, my initial impressions haven't changed. This is still my favorite knife for most tasks. I maintain it regularly with a steel and it is as sharp as it ever was. I have found though that for certain tasks like cutting slits into an onion for dicing or cutting root vegetables, I do prefer a heavier knife (that's why I bought another forged global knife), but that is just personal preference. All in all, a great general purpose kitchen knife.

I bought this to replace a Henckels Pro S 8" Chef. The Global is MUCH sharper. I had no idea it would be this good. The reviews were all great, but so are the ones for the Henckels. This thing is super sharp and beautifully balanced. The blade is nice and thin, making this knife useful for just about anything. Add a bread knife and a parer and thats about all you need. Highly recommended!
